The Tipton R-VI School District is accepting applications for a full-time custodian, for days, swing-shift, or part-time. This position will qualify for full health and life insurance benefits and lifetime retirement benefits with the Public Education Employee Retirement System after five years.
Compensation: Prior work history will be considered for placement on the salary schedule. Range is $11.15- $16.92
Hours: Work hours are flexible based on the needs of the school district. 40 hours per week with some overtime which can be paid or used as additional leave/compensation time.
Reports To: Director of Maintenance and Custodial Services
Position responsibilities:
- Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- When directed by supervisor, regulates heat, ventilations and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriates to the season and to assure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
- Shovels, plows and sands walks, driveways, parking areas and steps as appropriate.
- Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Sweeps classroom daily and dusts furniture and computers.
- Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilet floors daily and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Washes all windows on both inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary.
- Keeps grounds free of rubbish.
- Performs such yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Cleans all teacher classroom boards at least once a week.
- When directed by supervisor: Raises the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. each school day and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m. each day.
- Reports minor building repairs and follows directives concerning them.
- Reports repairs needed promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Reports immediately to the Principal any damage to school property.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Principal or Superintendent.
- Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment on hand and requisitions replacements from the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair.
- Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and water.
- Conducts periodic inspections and tests all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
- Must be able to physically lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- Must properly clean areas affected by human vomit and waste.
